GOOLENGOOK SPECIAL

Goolengook is a unique area of ancient forest in east gippsland in victoria.
In 1996, the government scheduled the area for logging, prompting the longest-running blockade the country has seen.

This week's episode contains two stories:
"goolengook: the story so far"
produced soon after the protest camp was busted in 1997, and
"woodstop 98",
which exposes the privatisation of forest management
in east gippsland.

A government officer (Gary Squires) awarded the harvesting contract to a company (East Gippsland Logging) which is now payed by the government to supply itself with timber.

Gary Squires then transferred to a job as the head of East Gippsland Logging.
