Silent Cries Abdul is a Bangladeshi who is working in a cinema in Kuala Lumpur. He has not seen his passport since handing it over to his employers two years ago. His employers claim that it is still with immigration. Everyday he risks being arrested by the police for not being able to produce the legal documents. Malaysia is now the tempory home to an estimated 3 million migrant workers. They come from the Philippines, Burma, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Thailand, Pakistan and other nearby countries in search of greener pastures. But life in Malaysia is not all that easy. This is their story.

From the crisis capital to the hope of labour - Progress! 1998

This film presents a graphic account of the escalation in tensions between the Union, the Mando Machinery Company and the Korean government following the announcement of company plans to dismiss over 1100 workers. Sit-in strikes and takovers occured simultaneously at all 7 plants. The government responded with riot police, water cannons, tear gas and batons. The strike was to last more than 100 days. The repercussions are still being felt today.
